So I finally bought my dream car, a 84 El Camino conquista, I checked everything over from the engine, tranny, to the floor pans and window seals. I picked it up in Oklahoma City and drove it to Tulsa. It was doing very well for a while but then all of a sudden it started putting as if it was running out of gas, even though I had just filled the tank. It wasn't a tranny type of slip at all, just felt like the engine wasn't getting any fuel. The carbeurator had just been rebuilt on it, but im thinking that it is the source of the problem, I talked to the previous owner and he was dead set on it being the distibutor cap. So my question is this. Are the symptoms described consistant with the explanation given (distributor cap)? If so how much is it to fix or are the a lot of other possibilites such as a fuel pump problem or anything else? Any help and advise is appreciated. thanks. Yeah, I've had quite a few people tell me it sounds more like the fuel filter, the mechanic hasn't done anything to the car yet so I might have him replace that first before I give him the OK to replace anything else. thanks for the replies...
